Museum Fest

Museum Fest has been a tradition each November in Richlands for many years.  This event provides crafters the opportunity to display and sell their wares.  This year the Coastal Carolina Belles on Wheels volunteered to do a "Sheep to Shawl" demonstration!  --  Yes, that's right!  The group created a shawl from scratch!

The shearing started at 10 a.m., and the group worked hard all day.  First the fleece had to be skirted and carded.  It was also blended with some pre-dyed wool to give it some color.  Then the spinners had to spin and ply the wool into yarn, so it could be woven into a shawl.

By 6:30 p.m., the shawl was finished, except for washing.

The shawl was raffled off to raise money for the guild's future projects!

Shearing

Kathy carefully shears "Elmo" for the group to begin the wool processing.

Carding

Kelly is busy carding the wool while Melissa & Lise "impatiently" wait for something to spin!

Peddle, Peddle, Peddle

The spinners (Laurie, Lise, and Melissa) peddled quickly to produce yarn from the carded fleece so the weavers could begin to weave the shawl.

Weaving

Laurie & Pam wove the web for the final product on a triangular loom.

By the End of the Day

By 6:30 that evening the shawl was completed except for the washing!

Finished Product

After the shawl was washed, blocked and dried, it went to it's new owner!
